In a significant move for urban governance and infrastructure development, the Rajasthan government has given the green light for the establishment of 76 additional municipalities in the state. This decision raises the total number of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) from 309 to 385. Alongside this, the government has authorized 684 new positions in the Department of Local Self-Government to enhance the administrative structure of the newly formed civic bodies.
This initiative is being hailed as a major urban governance reform by the Rajasthan government, marking the first substantial increase in posts within the Local Self-Government Department in about 15 years. It is also the initial recruitment approval in the department over the last three years.
The government anticipates that this move will enhance civic administration, expedite infrastructure development, and ensure prompt delivery of essential urban services in rapidly expanding towns. Among the beneficiaries of this urban expansion are Jaipur and Jhunjhunu, each receiving seven new municipalities.
