Rajasthan Health and Medical Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar has revealed that investigations into the Kota maternal health incident are progressing on three key fronts. These include examining medicines given to patients, checking operation theaters and medical equipment for potential infections, and reviewing treatment protocols and patient monitoring systems. Laboratory reports on potential contamination are anticipated within 2 to 3 weeks.
Khimsar, during his visit to Kota, emphasized the state government’s serious approach towards the deaths and health deterioration of expectant mothers. He mentioned a comprehensive investigation from various angles to determine the root cause of the incident. A team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, is scheduled to visit Kota for an impartial inquiry on Saturday.
The minister, after inspecting healthcare facilities at New Medical College Hospital and J.K. Lon Hospital, described the incident as distressing and unfortunate. He assured a thorough, sensitive, and transparent probe to ascertain the true causes. Khimsar stressed that actions will align with the report’s findings, ensuring no tolerance for negligence in healthcare services.
Investigations are focusing on medicines administered, operation theaters, and equipment inspections, and treatment protocols. Reports on possible contamination are awaited in the coming weeks. Medical staff involved have been suspended pending inquiry, with a commitment to take strict action based on guilt. The Health Department has issued directives to enforce Standard Operating Procedures and enhance monitoring systems to prevent future incidents.
Khimsar interacted with expectant mothers and their families during the visit, ensuring the government’s commitment to quality treatment and care. Notable officials present included Kota South MLA Sandeep Sharma, Ladpura MLA Kalpana Devi, and various hospital superintendents and officials.
