Rajasthan achieved a significant milestone in sustainable urban transportation by introducing 29 state-of-the-art electric buses in Jaipur and inaugurating 18 electric buses in Bhilwara under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme. This launch marks the debut of electric bus services in the state, enhancing clean, safe, and affordable public transport while supporting environmental conservation and urban mobility. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, while flagging off the buses in Jaipur, emphasized the importance of this initiative in promoting electric mobility in urban transportation.
Under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2023, the Central government is facilitating depot construction, charging infrastructure, and operational needs for the electric buses. Eight cities in Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and others, have been selected under this scheme. The Central government has sanctioned 675 electric buses for these cities, with an additional 475 e-buses approved, totaling 1,150 electric buses allocated for Rajasthan.
The first batch of 675 electric buses is expected to be operational by Diwali, equipped with advanced technology to ensure a safe and convenient travel experience for passengers, including women, students, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals. These buses come with modern amenities like air-conditioning, CCTV surveillance systems, and emergency panic buttons. Chief Minister Sharma also announced plans to introduce 555 electric buses for urban transport services and 50 double-decker electric buses for tourism purposes, aiming to provide modern, safe, and eco-friendly public transport facilities.
