The Intelligence Wing of the Rajasthan Police apprehended a young man from Jaisalmer district’s Pokhran area on charges of espionage for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The arrested individual stands accused of transmitting crucial information concerning the Indian Army to handlers in Pakistan. Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Prafull Kumar highlighted the increased espionage activities by Pakistani agencies in Rajasthan’s border regions, leading to the arrest.
Continuous surveillance and intelligence inputs prompted a targeted operation by Rajasthan Intelligence, resulting in the identification of the suspect. The suspect, identified as Jhabararam, was found to be engaging in suspicious activities, including regular communication with Pakistani intelligence operatives through social media platforms. Investigations revealed that he was enticed into the espionage network through financial incentives and a honeytrap.
Jhabararam allegedly divulged confidential details about Indian Army movements and installations in exchange for monetary rewards. Moreover, he provided his SIM card’s One-Time Password (OTP) to the Pakistani handlers for activating WhatsApp as a communication channel. Subsequently, Jhabararam was interrogated at the Central Interrogation Centre in Jaipur by various security agencies, leading to his formal arrest under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.
The Rajasthan Intelligence Agency, in collaboration with other security bodies, is conducting further investigations to uncover additional links and ascertain the extent of compromised information.
