Jaipur, Aug 19 (IANS) In a major push to strengthen passenger safety and curb road accidents, the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA) inspected 1,442 private and luxury buses across the state during its month‑and‑a‑half‑long “RSLSA for Road Safety” campaign.

The drive resulted in the seizure of 370 buses and the imposition of fines amounting to Rs 2.82 crore on 976 buses for violations of prescribed safety and technical standards, officials said on Wednesday.

The RSLSA conducted the special campaign to ensure safe and secure passenger transportation across Rajasthan. To implement Supreme Court guidelines effectively, the Authority launched the first phase of the campaign on July 6 in 12 selected districts.

Secretaries of the respective District Legal Services Authorities, in coordination with Chief Judicial Magistrates and Transport Department officials, conducted thorough inspections of private and luxury buses to check compliance with safety and technical norms.

In view of the positive response and outcomes, the campaign was expanded to the entire state from July 24.

During the campaign, officials inspected 1,442 private buses, seized 370 buses, and imposed and collected fines totalling Rs 2,82,18,041 from 976 buses.

The campaign aimed to uphold passengers’ right to safe and secure travel, ensure compliance with prescribed safety standards in private and luxury buses, and curb road accidents.

Initially scheduled to continue until August 15, the Authority has now decided to relaunch the campaign on a larger scale during Legal Services Week, beginning November 9, maintaining its continued focus on passenger safety.
