Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati after attending the oath-taking ceremony of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at the Khanapara playground. The two leaders sought blessings of Goddess Maa Kamakhya after the ceremony, which was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other prominent political figures. Security was tightened around the temple as devotees gathered to witness the leaders’ visit.
The Kamakhya Temple is a revered Shakti Peetha in India and holds great spiritual significance in Hinduism, especially in Tantric worship. Perched on the Nilachal Hills with a view of the Brahmaputra River, the ancient temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya, an embodiment of Goddess Shakti. Legend has it that the temple symbolizes feminine power and draws devotees from all over the world, especially during the annual Ambubachi Mela, a significant religious event in the Northeast.
The BJP-led NDA secured a significant victory in the recent Assam Assembly elections, ensuring Sarma’s continuation as Chief Minister. Earlier, Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in as Chief Minister for a second consecutive term, with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administering the oath at a ceremony attended by top BJP and NDA leaders. Alongside Sarma, four other MLAs also took the oath as Ministers, including Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora, Charan Boro, and Ajanta Neog.
