The Rajya Sabha faced disruptions and was adjourned till 2 P.M. on Friday due to loud protests from Opposition members demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in light of the NEET paper leak issue. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge insisted on the minister’s resignation, leading to chaos in the House and subsequent adjournment by Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan.

This marked the second adjournment of the day, with the morning session witnessing Congress chief Kharge raising concerns about the lathi charge by Delhi Police on protesting students. The ongoing Monsoon Session’s fifth day saw a lack of substantial business in the Upper House as Opposition parties persisted in seeking a detailed discussion on the NEET paper leak scandal and ministerial responsibility.

Despite routine proceedings at the beginning of the day, including homage to Kargil War martyrs and the presentation of papers and committee reports, the Opposition’s continuous protests hindered any meaningful debate or legislative activities. The repeated disruptions highlight the significant divide between the ruling government and the Opposition regarding the handling of the NEET controversy impacting numerous students nationwide.

As the Monsoon Session progresses, both sides are anticipated to escalate their stances, posing challenges to the smooth functioning of the House in the days ahead. The impasse once again underscores concerns about Parliament’s productivity and the critical need for a resolution on this education-related issue.
