The Rajya Sabha session on Thursday was adjourned for the day due to continuous protests by opposition parties demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak issue. Despite efforts to conduct business, disruptions led to the adjournment by Deputy Chairman Harivansh Singh. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju accused the opposition of deliberately disrupting proceedings to avoid discussing the NEET controversy.
Nearly minutes before the adjournment, Rijiju criticized Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge and other MPs for disturbing the House. He highlighted the government’s willingness to address the NEET matter formally in Parliament. The political exchange intensified as Kharge raised concerns about the injustice faced by students due to the paper leak, leading to further chaos in the House.
Efforts by the Chairman to restore order were in vain as protests and sloganeering persisted, resulting in the eventual adjournment of the House for the day. The Rajya Sabha is set to reconvene at 11 a.m. on Friday. The ongoing deadlock stems from the opposition’s demand for the Education Minister’s resignation over the NEET issue, while the government accuses them of politicizing the matter affecting students nationwide.
