Ranchi Royals clinched a thrilling 3-2 triumph against Hyderabad Toofans in qualifier 2 of the men’s Hockey India League (HIL) 2026 at the Kalinga Hockey Stadium in Bhubaneswar. Tom Boon’s hat-trick of goals (13′, 15′, 34′) propelled the Royals into the final against Vedanta Kalinga Lancers on Monday. Meanwhile, Jacob Anderson (5′) and Amandeep Lakra (38′) netted for the Toofans.
The match showcased intense action as Hyderabad Toofans took an early lead with Jacob Anderson’s goal in the fifth minute, set up brilliantly by Rajinder Singh. Despite Toofans’ advantage, they conceded two penalty corners to Ranchi Royals, allowing Tom Boon to capitalize with two quick goals in the 13th and 15th minutes.
In a goalless second quarter, both teams displayed strong offensive efforts, highlighting their determination to secure a final spot. Returning after halftime, Ranchi Royals, led by Tom Boon, extended their lead with another goal from a penalty corner in the 34th minute. Amandeep Lakra’s strike for the Toofans narrowed the gap to 3-2 shortly after.
The final quarter saw Toofans pressing for an equalizer but failing to convert their opportunities from penalty corners. Despite Toofans’ late efforts, Ranchi Royals’ solid defense ensured they held on to their 3-2 lead until the final whistle.
