Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji expressed gratitude towards filmmaker Karan Johar for embracing her unique voice, which had faced rejection early in her career. Johar’s encouragement led Mukerji to dub her own voice in future projects, notably in the movie “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.” Despite initial doubts, Johar insisted on retaining Mukerji’s voice, shaping her identity as an actor.
Mukerji revealed that her voice was dubbed in the film “Ghulam,” a decision that left her disheartened but was accepted due to her limited options as a newcomer. She later learned that the choice to dub her voice was a collective decision involving director Vikram Bhatt, producer Mukesh Bhatt, and actor Aamir Khan. Khan explained that sometimes sacrifices are necessary for the film’s best interest, drawing parallels to legendary actress Sridevi’s career.
Acknowledging her disappointment, Mukerji emphasized the importance of being a team player in the film industry, prioritizing the project’s success over personal setbacks. The conversation between Mukerji and Johar took place during a special event commemorating the actress’s three-decade journey in Bollywood, hosted by Yash Raj Films.
The movie “Ghulam,” released in 1998, directed by Vikram Bhatt and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, starred Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji in leading roles. Known for its compelling narrative and strong performances, the film garnered acclaim upon its release.
