Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh informed the Karnataka High Court of his willingness to collaborate with the complainant to amend the wording of his apology affidavit. This development occurred in a case related to his mimicry of a character from the movie ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’. The complainant had raised concerns about the lack of genuine remorse in Singh’s initial affidavit.

Singh’s petition before the court sought to quash an FIR filed against him for the incident that took place during the 56th International Film Festival of India in Goa. At the event, Singh allegedly imitated a character played by actor Rishab Shetty and made remarks about a deity that were objected to.

Senior advocate Sajan Poovayya, representing Singh, mentioned that an apology affidavit had already been submitted, where Singh expressed regret for unintentionally offending worshippers. However, the complainant’s counsel argued that the apology lacked clarity and urged for a more specific expression of remorse.

Poovayya highlighted sections of the affidavit where Singh acknowledged his unawareness of the potential offense caused by his actions and issued a public apology upon realizing the impact. Following the counsel’s request for a more precise apology, Poovayya assured the court of collaborating with the complainant to draft a revised version.

The court, after hearing arguments from both sides, adjourned the case to April 23. It directed for a revised affidavit to be filed to address the concerns raised by the complainant. This legal action stems from Singh’s controversial remarks during the film festival, where he faced criticism for comments that were deemed offensive to religious sentiments.
