Ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has signed with the San Francisco Unicorns for the 2026 Major League Cricket season, making him the first Indian player in the league. Ashwin, known for his impressive international cricket career with 765 wickets across all formats, expressed excitement at the opportunity to play in the MLC.
Ashwin highlighted the MLC’s reputation for showcasing top talent and providing exposure to US domestic cricket. He aims to contribute to the San Francisco Unicorns’ success and is eager to engage with fans in the Bay Area. The off-spinner, a key figure in the Indian team’s victories in the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy, is set to bring his experience and skills to the American cricket scene.
San Francisco Unicorns’ head coach, Cameron White, praised Ashwin’s addition to the team, emphasizing his match-winning abilities and cricketing acumen. Ashwin, who has been a standout performer in the Indian Premier League (IPL), was set to play in the Big Bash League before a knee injury sidelined him. The Unicorns are gearing up for their season opener against LA Knight Riders on June 19 at Grand Prairie Cricket Stadium in Texas.
