Rehaan Ahtif has taken the place of Dylan Thakrar in Tanzania’s U19 World Cup squad due to Thakrar’s left middle finger injury during their match against South Africa. The Event Technical Committee of the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup has approved Ahtif as Thakrar’s replacement in the team.
The Event Technical Committee overseeing the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2026 includes key members like Wasim Khan, Sarah Edgar, Hamilton Masakadza, and Tash Farrant. Tanzania has faced defeats in their initial matches against the West Indies and South Africa in the U19 World Cup.
In their recent game against South Africa, Tanzania encountered a formidable challenge as the Proteas scored a record-breaking 397/5, the highest team total in the tournament’s history. South Africa’s captain Muhammad Bulbulia and Jason Rowles both scored centuries contributing to this remarkable total.
South Africa’s total of 397/5 surpassed their previous U-19 World Cup record and also exceeded Sri Lanka’s score in an earlier match. This achievement ranks as the eighth-highest score in the event’s history. Bulbulia and Rowles’ partnership of 201 runs for the third wicket proved to be overwhelming for the Tanzanian bowlers.
The South African team’s openers, Jorich van Schalkwyk and Mogamat Lagadien, laid a solid foundation for the massive total, followed by impressive performances from Bulbulia and Rowles. Despite Bulbulia’s dismissal after reaching his century, South Africa continued their aggressive batting display.
