Renowned playback singer Shaan has addressed A.R. Rahman’s recent statement regarding a perceived slowdown in his work within the Hindi film industry. Rahman, in an interview with BBC Asian Network, referred to the reasons reaching him indirectly as “Chinese whispers.” He mentioned that individuals lacking creativity now hold decision-making power, hinting at a possible communal aspect, albeit not directly confronting him.
Shaan, in response to Rahman’s comments, expressed his own experience of a decrease in work opportunities. Despite his longstanding career in singing, Shaan acknowledged the subjective nature of opportunities in the industry, emphasizing that one’s workload is beyond personal control. He highlighted the importance of delivering quality work regardless of the quantity, praising Rahman’s distinctive musical style and enduring popularity among fans.
Dismissing any communal bias in the music industry, Shaan emphasized that success in music transcends communal boundaries. He pointed out that the longevity and fan base of veteran artists, irrespective of their background, exemplify the industry’s merit-based nature. Shaan encouraged focusing on creating exceptional music and avoiding distractions related to communal or minority angles.
