Western societies, media, and governments are criticized for their limited understanding of “jihad terrorism” in Pakistan and beyond, according to a recent report. The report suggests that Western perspectives often fail to grasp the deep-rooted motivations and evolving tactics of terror groups, leading to ineffective strategies in combating the threat.
The report, authored by Turkish journalist Uzay Bulut for ‘PJ Media,’ emphasizes that Pakistan supports terror groups within its borders, fueling activities such as territorial expansionism and ethnic cleansing. Bulut warns that this myopic approach towards jihad terrorism could have detrimental effects on international security unless there is a significant shift in Western foreign policy.
Highlighting the security implications, the report points out that groups backed by Pakistan’s military and security establishment continue to pose a significant threat across South Asia. For instance, the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML), linked to the UN-designated terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), promotes an Islamist agenda and has been actively involved in political activities in Pakistan.
The Resistance Front (TRF), identified as a proxy front for LeT, has also gained traction in Pakistan. Despite projecting itself as a “local, secular resistance” group, TRF is designated as a terrorist organization by India and the United States. The report underscores the interconnected nature of these groups and the alarming level of support provided by Pakistan’s intelligence agency (ISI) to sustain their operations.
