A retired Army officer, Brigadier V.K. Joshi, was fatally shot on Monday in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, after being hit by a stray bullet during a firing incident. The tragic event occurred at around 7 a.m. in the Rajpur area following an argument between occupants of two vehicles, which escalated into a firing exchange.
Joshi, who was out for a morning walk, was caught in the crossfire and sustained critical injuries. He was promptly taken to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his wounds during treatment. Dehradun SP City Pramod Kumar confirmed the incident, mentioning that the area has been sealed off for investigation, and the individuals and vehicle involved are under scrutiny.
Police authorities have initiated a thorough search operation and erected blockades in various police station jurisdictions to locate the perpetrators. They are also working on reconstructing the events leading to the gunfire. Further updates on the case are expected as the investigation progresses.
In a similar incident earlier this year on January 11, another retired Army officer, Lieutenant General Kulwant Singh Mann, lost his life in a road accident in Haryana’s Panchkula. The 85-year-old officer was struck by an unidentified vehicle during his morning walk near his residence. Despite being rushed to the Army’s Command Hospital, he passed away due to the injuries sustained. Police are investigating the case and reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity where the accident occurred.
