The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has finalized Sunil Kumar Singh as its candidate for the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) elections. Sunil Singh, a senior leader, submitted his nomination papers on the last day of the process and is set for a second consecutive term in the Council.
Sources within the party had indicated Sunil Singh as the top contender for the nomination even before the official announcement. With the current MLA count in the Bihar Assembly, the RJD is assured of one seat in the upcoming election. Sunil Singh, needing 25 votes for victory, is in a favorable position for reentry into the Upper House.
After filing his nomination, Sunil Singh expressed gratitude for the chance to serve again and exuded confidence in his triumph. Known for his close ties to RJD’s Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi’s family, Sunil Singh, often referred to as Rabri Devi’s foster brother, first entered the Legislative Council in 2020 through party nomination.
The competition for the RJD nomination primarily featured Sunil Singh and senior party leader Shivchandra Ram. Ultimately, the party leadership opted to trust Sunil Singh with the candidacy. Sunil Singh, recognized for his outspoken demeanor in the Council, has been involved in heated exchanges with members of the ruling coalition, occasionally sparking controversy.
