A controversy has arisen regarding Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination for Rajya Sabha in Madhya Pradesh due to an undisclosed court case in Hyderabad. Last year, a legal notice was sent to the AICC in-charge for Telangana, revealing her involvement in a complaint filed by a former Congress leader and GHMC corporator.
The complaint, filed under section 223 of BNSS in a Hyderabad court in 2025, named Natarajan as a respondent. She was directed to appear in court on September 17, 2025, and respond to the allegations. The petitioner, Srilatha, accused Natarajan and six other Congress leaders of failing to address threats and harassment she faced from a Congress leader.
Following the court’s directive, an FIR was lodged on May 28, 2025. Sources within the Congress mentioned that Natarajan was not initially named in the police complaint filed in 2022, which was closed due to insufficient evidence. Subsequent private complaints in Hyderabad and Bengaluru were also resolved without further action.
In Madhya Pradesh, Natarajan’s nomination was rejected by the returning officer based on a complaint from senior BJP leader Kailash Vijayvargiya. The complaint highlighted the undisclosed court case in Telangana, leading to questions about the transparency of Natarajan’s nomination affidavit. The situation escalated when it was revealed that the information was provided by a Congress leader in Telangana.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders raised concerns about the involvement of Telangana’s Home Minister in the matter. They questioned the source of information provided to the Madhya Pradesh BJP and criticized Natarajan’s stance on various issues, including environmental projects and demolitions.
