Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visited New Delhi and met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss various regional and global issues, including Ukraine and West Asia. PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to dialogue and diplomacy during the meeting. Lavrov updated PM Modi on the progress in bilateral cooperation since their last meeting in December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
The Prime Minister also asked Lavrov to convey his warm regards to President Putin. Lavrov’s visit is in conjunction with the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi, where he engaged with PM Modi. The meeting, chaired by EAM Jaishankar, includes foreign ministers and senior officials from BRICS member countries and partner nations.
In addition to meeting with PM Modi, Lavrov also held discussions with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on various aspects of the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. The talks encompassed trade, investment, energy, connectivity, science, technology, and enhancing skills and talent mobility. The ministers also addressed global and multilateral issues of common interest.
