Sahith Theegala impressed with a 3-under 69 in the opening round of the Cadillac Championship, securing a tied-ninth spot, while Akshay Bhatia also showed promise with a 2-under 70, placing tied-15th. Theegala started strong with three birdies early on, maintaining composure throughout the round to stay under par.
Despite a few dropped shots, Theegala’s performance keeps him in contention for his first win this season, following four top-10 finishes. Bhatia, on the other hand, was on track for a top-10 finish but a mistake on the final hole pushed him back to tied-15th after finding water off the tee.
Cameron Young leads the pack with a flawless 8-under 64, holding a one-shot lead over Jordan Spieth and Alex Smalley at 7-under. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler had a mixed day, finishing at 1-under after an early strong start. Theegala is set to continue his campaign alongside Taylor Pendrith in the second round.
