Several saints at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow have expressed support for the decision to stop cooking and serving non-vegetarian food in all hostel messes and canteens. This move comes after a recent inspection of the campus by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, who is also the Chancellor of state universities. While the university clarified that students can still order or cook non-vegetarian food themselves, it will no longer be provided in the hostels.
The decision was made following concerns raised by Governor Anandiben Patel about hygiene standards in places where non-vegetarian food was prepared on campus. Saint Satendra Das Vedant Ji Maharaj praised the move and hoped that similar actions would be taken by educational institutions nationwide. He expressed gratitude to the Governor and called for a widespread implementation of such bans in hostels and universities across India.
Mahamandaleshwar Vishnu Das also commended the university’s decision, emphasizing that consuming non-vegetarian food may not necessarily contribute to better health or strength. He supported the ban on cooking and serving non-vegetarian food at KGMU, stating that it is a positive step towards promoting healthier dietary habits. President of Ramadal Trust Kalki Ram echoed these sentiments, welcoming the move as a way to address odour issues and maintain a cleaner environment on campus.
