Samsung Electronics has decided to pull out its home appliance and TV sales business in China due to challenges in maintaining its market presence. However, the company will continue its mobile, semiconductor, and medical equipment operations in the country. The decision to exit China follows Samsung’s struggle with rising costs and competition from Chinese firms.
Samsung informed its vendors in China about the discontinuation of its home appliance and TV sales business. The company’s sales unit in China reported a significant decline in net profit last year, from 300 billion won to 168 billion won. Facing increased competition and tariff risks, Samsung had been reviewing its business structure to adapt to market dynamics.
In response to growing challenges, Samsung, the world’s top TV maker, made leadership changes to address domestic and international obstacles. The company also announced a leadership reshuffle, appointing a new head for its visual display business. Lee Won-jin, previously in charge of global marketing, will lead the visual display unit to drive business transformations and identify new growth opportunities.
The management shake-up at Samsung comes amidst fierce competition from Chinese rivals in the display market. Lee Won-jin, known for his contributions to Samsung’s service business and global marketing, is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the visual display division. His appointment reflects Samsung’s strategic efforts to strengthen its position in the face of evolving market dynamics.
