Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar has recommended that Varun Chakaravarthy, the mystery spinner, focus on bowling fuller lengths and targeting the stumps as India prepares to take on West Indies in a crucial match at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Bangar noted that in the Super 8s, Varun seemed to be missing his optimal length, especially when facing opposition batters who could read him well.
Bangar emphasized the significance of Varun’s variations, particularly against strong West Indies batsmen like Shimron Hetmyer, who has been in good form during the tournament. He suggested that bowling the googly from off-stump to the fourth-stump line, slightly wider outside off, could prove effective against Hetmyer’s preferred hitting areas.
The former cricketer highlighted the importance of Varun finding his form again before facing the two-time champions. Varun, the top-ranked T20I bowler, had a tough outing against Zimbabwe, giving away runs and taking only one wicket. Bangar also discussed Abhishek Sharma’s improved performance against Zimbabwe, emphasizing the need for playing straighter and respecting the bowlers to increase chances of success.
