Actor-filmmaker Saurabh Shukla shared insights on the changing landscape of children’s films in today’s cinema. He emphasized that the perception of “innocence” in movies has evolved over time with societal changes. While acknowledging past Bollywood hits like Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke and Taare Zameen Par, he dismissed the notion that innocence is lost in current films catering to children.
Shukla highlighted the shift in child psychology over the years, noting that societal changes have influenced storytelling for younger audiences. He emphasized that although children today have access to more information in the digital age, it does not signify the loss of innocence. According to him, evolving societal norms shape the content produced for children in contemporary cinema.
Recently, Saurabh directed “Jab Khuli Kitaab,” a film that explores the complexities of a long-standing marriage facing unexpected revelations. The movie, adapted from his stage play, features Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia as an elderly couple navigating love, companionship, and forgiveness amidst family secrets. Through this narrative, the film delves into emotional themes while rediscovering the essence of relationships.
