New Delhi, Aug 17 (IANS) Large crowds of devotees gathered at Shiva temples across Delhi and neighbouring areas on the third Monday of Sawan, which coincided with Nag Panchami. Devotees arrived early in the morning to offer prayers, perform Jalabhishek and seek blessings of Lord Shiva.
At the ancient Gauri Shankar Temple in Chandni Chowk, a large number of devotees gathered to offer prayers. The temple witnessed a steady flow of devotees as people marked the auspicious Monday of the Sawan month along with Nag Panchami.
A devotee at the temple said, “It feels really good to be here. Today is also Nag Panchami, and this is a very ancient temple. We are very happy to have come here and offer prayers.”
Another devotee said that Nag Panchami had added to the religious significance of the day and that she visits the temple every Monday during Sawan by the grace of Lord Shiva.
“Today is also Nag Panchami, and by Lord Shiva’s grace, we come here every Monday during Sawan,” the devotee told IANS.
A large crowd was also seen at the ancient Shiva Temple in Connaught Place, where devotees gathered to offer prayers and seek blessings on the third Monday of Sawan.
In Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, large crowds gathered at the Dudheshwar Nath Temple. Shiva devotees arrived early to perform Jalabhishek and offer prayers, with the temple witnessing a significant footfall on the auspicious occasion.
Meanwhile, in Amritsar, Punjab, a large number of devotees gathered at the Shivala Bagh Bhaiyan Temple as Sawan Monday coincided with Nag Panchami and Sankranti. Long queues formed from early morning, with devotees reportedly waiting for up to two hours for darshan.
Devotees at the ancient temple offered prayers, observed fasts and participated in various religious rituals centred around the Shivling.
Religious fervour was also witnessed in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, where lakhs of devotees gathered at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham despite rain. Devotees waited in long queues for darshan and offered water to Baba Vishwanath, while extensive security arrangements, including police deployment and drone surveillance, were put in place.
