Jammu, Aug 16 (IANS) Joint security forces launched a search operation in J&K’s Udhampur district on Sunday following reported movement of unidentified persons in the area.

Officials said joint forces launched a massive joint cordon and search operation CASO) in the Jophar area of Ramnagar in Udhampur district following the reports.

The search operation was started following intelligence inputs regarding the suspected movement of 2 to 3 unidentified individuals.

Following the Input, joint teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, its Special Operations Group (SOG), and the army cordoned off the area and combing operations were started, which are now underway, officials said.

Security forces have intensified multi-district anti-terror operations and area domination sweeps across the Jammu region following recent inputs about terrorist movement.

With the Independence Day security framework still heavily active across Jammu and Kashmir, joint teams from the army, J&K Police (including the Special Operations Group), and central paramilitary forces are maintaining high vigilance.

Recently, a massive search operation was triggered after a video emerged showing four suspected foreign and local terrorists scaling the Ramtund Peak in Doda district.

Because this mountain belt lies close to the Seoj Dhar ridge connecting Doda to Udhampur, reinforcements were mobilised across the district borders to seal potential transit and escape routes through the dense forest terrain.

Security grids have intensified a major joint operation in the Gambhir Mughlan and Dorimal forests within the Manjakote sector of Rajouri district.

Forces are actively deploying drones, helicopters, and sniffer dogs to comb through natural cave systems where foreign terrorists are believed to be hiding. In Poonch district, a cordon-and-search operation (CASO) was executed across the Dhara Sangla, Gujjar Naar, and Kherowali Dhok forest villages.

Operations in this sector have led to the discovery of hidden logistics caches containing winter blankets, gas stoves, and food supplies intended to sustain long-term evasion.

Joint checks by the local police and the Border Security Force (BSF) are actively underway along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) passing through Ramban and Nagrota.

Heavy vehicle frisking, random cordon exercises, and checkpoint surveillance remain elevated to secure transit routes.
