Sebastian Beccacece has resigned as Ecuador head coach following the team’s 2-0 loss to Mexico in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32. Beccacece confirmed his departure, stating that his contract had ended and stepping down was the appropriate decision as Ecuador did not meet their tournament goals.
Having taken charge in August 2024, Beccacece expressed gratitude for the opportunity but acknowledged that Ecuador had fallen short of expectations. He thanked the Ecuadorian Football Federation president and the organization for their support during his tenure.
Ecuador’s World Cup journey concluded with a defeat to Mexico, with goals from Julian Quinones and Raúl Jiménez sealing the victory for the hosts. Beccacece took full responsibility for the team’s performance, admitting they failed to meet the standards set during his leadership.
Despite a strong revival under Beccacece, Ecuador’s World Cup campaign ended in the Round of 32. The coach leaves after overseeing significant progress, including a memorable victory over Germany in the group stage and a successful qualification run.
