The second supplementary list for judicial adjudication cases in West Bengal was released on Friday around 11:30 p.m. This list can be accessed on the websites of both the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in West Bengal. However, specific details regarding the total number of cases processed and the count of names deemed excludable were not immediately disclosed, with no official figures shared by the ECI to the media.
Sources from the CEO’s office mentioned that out of the over 60 lakh cases referred for judicial adjudication, approximately 37 lakh names have been cleared so far. Yet, there is no information available on the percentage of these 37 lakh names identified as excludable. Individuals whose names are excluded during the adjudication process will have the opportunity to seek recourse through any of the 19 Appellate Tribunals established for this purpose. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured that the Trinamool Congress will extend legal assistance to those whose names are removed during judicial adjudication and will also provide legal representation for them.
The first supplementary list was published close to midnight on March 23. It was previously decided that supplementary lists would be issued in accordance with the progress of the adjudication process, following the publication of the final voters’ list in West Bengal on February 28, excluding the 60 lakh cases referred for judicial adjudication.
Before the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) notification was issued for West Bengal in November last year, the state had a total of 7,66,37,529 voters. Subsequently, in the draft voters’ list released in December, 58,20,899 names were removed. The final voters’ list published on February 28 saw an increase in deletions to 63,66,952. After the first supplementary list was issued on March 23, reports indicated that the number of deleted voters had risen to approximately 77 lakh.
