Security forces in Manipur are conducting extensive joint operations in Bishnupur district following an attack by suspected armed Kuki militants at Phouljang and Gothol areas. The militants targeted an Indian Army post, prompting a swift response from the Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force. A 30-minute exchange of fire ensued late Wednesday night.
A joint operation involving the Indian Army, CRPF, Manipur Police, and Manipur Armed Forces has been ongoing since early Thursday in the affected area and surrounding hill regions. The security situation is being closely monitored, with operations set to continue in the hill areas. Manipur Police authorities have advised civilians to verify information before sharing to prevent the spread of rumors.
In a separate development, security forces have demolished six illegally constructed bunkers in Ukhrul district, particularly in Litan and Mongkat Chepu Upper village areas. Most bunkers in the violence-affected Litan area have been neutralized, with heightened security measures in place to prevent further escalation. Additionally, an active cadre of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) was apprehended in Imphal West district.
Further, security forces recently arrested 14 cadres of the UNLF (Koireng faction) in Thoubal district, seizing a significant cache of weapons and other items. Extensive crackdowns on militant activities are ongoing across Manipur, with search operations and area domination drives in progress in various districts. Checkpoints have been established to monitor and restrict suspicious movements, while security escorts are provided to vehicles on the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway.
Strict security measures and convoy protection protocols are in place to ensure safe transit, with a focus on countering misinformation spread through social media. Manipur Police continue to caution the public against believing rumors or fake videos circulating online.
