Security forces in Assam, Manipur, and Mizoram have conducted separate operations resulting in the seizure of heroin valued at Rs 4.65 crore and the arrest of four drug peddlers within the last 24 hours. In Imphal, a drug peddler named Hriili Kaihrii was apprehended at the Phougakchao Ikhai Bazar checkpoint in Bishnupur district, with 94 grams of heroin found in his possession. Another drug peddler, Mohammad Ajmir Hussain, was arrested in Manipur’s Tengdongyan area, with 310 grams of heroin seized from him, estimated at Rs 2.26 crore.
In Assam, an anti-narcotics operation in Kachudaram, Cachar district, led to the recovery of 356 grams of heroin worth around Rs 2 crore. Anwar Hussain was taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing to establish the drug trafficking network. Meanwhile, in Mizoram, Assam Rifles troops intercepted a scooty in the Zote area of Champhai district, seizing 49.6 grams of heroin valued at approximately Rs 39 lakh from an individual named K. Thangzalala.
The successful operations underscore the commitment of security forces to combat cross-border smuggling and eliminate the drug trade in the region. Mizoram, sharing borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh, faces challenges due to its porous borders, making it susceptible to drug trafficking. The paramilitary forces are dedicated to securing the India-Myanmar border and creating a drug-free environment in the region.
