Senior Advocate General Devajit Saikia has announced his resignation from the position of Advocate General of Assam after the current state government’s term ended. Saikia stated that he tendered his resignation in accordance with constitutional tradition and practice following the completion of his nearly five-year tenure. He expressed gratitude to the state leadership and legal community for their support during his term in office.
Saikia, who served as the top law officer of the Assam government, represented the state in significant legal and constitutional matters before various courts. Besides his legal role, he also holds the position of secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and has been involved in Indian cricket administration for several years. His resignation precedes the swearing-in of the new BJP-led NDA government in Assam, scheduled for May 12 in Guwahati.
A new Advocate General is expected to be appointed after the formation of the new Council of Ministers in the state, following Saikia’s resignation.
