A day after being suspended, senior IAS officer Dr. B. Ashok criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, accusing the government of political interference, misusing public funds, and undermining bureaucratic independence. Ashok, who has served for 28 years and heads the IAS Association, linked his suspension to legal victories the association secured against the government since 2023.
Speaking to the media, Ashok highlighted the Chief Minister’s displeasure, especially after the association won five legal battles. He contrasted the two terms of the Left government, praising the first term for respecting civil servants, while criticizing the second term for appointing retired officials with significant influence, like former Chief Secretary K.M. Abraham.
Ashok stated that he would not immediately challenge his suspension in court, considering it a point of pride. He expressed confidence that a new government would address the issue appropriately, hinting at the recent electoral outcome going against the ruling front. He also raised concerns about the government mobilizing officials to secure a third term, allegedly using public funds for a substantial PR campaign.
