The Odisha Vigilance arrested Bijay Kumar Barik, a senior Inspector of the state police, for corruption. Barik, currently serving at the CRRI Police Station in Cuttack, was apprehended red-handed while accepting a bribe from a licensed liquor vendor. The vendor had reported Barik’s repeated demands for financial favors, leading to the Vigilance Department setting up a trap.
Following the complaint, Vigilance officials caught Barik receiving a bribe of Rs 40,000 in Bhubaneswar. The authorities recovered the entire bribe amount from Barik, and subsequent searches at his residence and office revealed significant assets in his possession. The anti-corruption team found Barik owning multiple properties and a substantial amount of cash during the search operation.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the need to eradicate corruption in Odisha during a recent statement. He urged the Vigilance department to intensify efforts to create a corruption-free environment in the state. In 2025, the Vigilance teams conducted extensive raids across Odisha, freezing bank accounts and seizing assets linked to corrupt government officials.
