Serious allegations of medical negligence have arisen at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata following the death of a woman during her treatment. The deceased, identified as Jaibun Nisha (65) from North Kolkata, passed away after her family claimed she was left unattended for an extended period after being admitted with respiratory issues.
Jaibun Nisha was brought to the trauma care unit at RG Kar around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, with the family alleging that despite her critical condition, only one doctor was present and refused to examine her. The family further stated that no doctor attended to her for 40 to 45 minutes, leading to escalating tensions and protests by the patient’s relatives.
Amidst the chaos, junior doctors eventually arrived at the hospital, but the patient’s condition had significantly worsened by then. Despite efforts, Jaibun Nisha succumbed to her condition. Subsequently, the family and neighbors protested, questioning the hospital’s security and services, demanding an investigation into the alleged medical negligence.
Family member Shamim Akhtar expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital’s response, highlighting the chaotic situation and lack of services. Police intervention was required to disperse the protesters, with the situation eventually calming down the next day. The deceased’s family has urged for a thorough investigation into the incident, while the hospital authorities have not yet issued an official statement.
