Seven individuals lost their lives in a recent landslide caused by heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. The tragic incident occurred in the Loran-Dumilan area due to continuous rain. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing to locate any missing persons, with seven bodies already recovered.

Local residents were alerted about the dangerous flash floods and landslides through mosque announcements. Prompt response from the police, civil administration, SDRF, and volunteers led to the initiation of rescue operations at the affected site. The authorities are evaluating the damage extent while continuing with the rescue missions.

The region witnessed another tragedy on Sunday when flash floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, resulted in the deaths of at least 17 individuals, with several others still unaccounted for. With the additional nine fatalities reported on Monday, the death toll in the Jammu region has now reached 26 due to the two-day rain havoc. Rescue operations persist in the affected areas to provide assistance and support.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a relief of Rs 6 lakh for the families of each deceased individual in the flash floods, landslides, and rain-related incidents in Rajouri and Poonch districts. The relief package includes Rs 4 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and an extra Rs 2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF). The Chief Minister emphasized that while monetary aid cannot replace the loss of lives, this immediate relief aims to assist the grieving families in their time of need.
