The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) expressed strong disapproval of the recent 30-day parole granted to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, currently serving time in Sunaria jail. SGPC member Bhagwant Singh Sialka condemned the repeated parole, citing its impact on Sikh religious sentiments. He raised concerns over the differential treatment given to Ram Rahim despite his involvement in sacrilege-related cases, including serious criminal offenses like rape and murder.
Sialka highlighted the perceived favoritism shown by the state and central governments towards Ram Rahim, despite his alleged connection to sacrilege investigations. He criticized the special treatment accorded to the Dera chief, contrasting it with the prolonged detention of other prisoners who had completed their sentences. Sialka pointed out discrepancies in the handling of cases involving Ram Rahim, alleging preferential legal provisions and sentencing alterations.
Accusing the authorities of maintaining double standards, Sialka emphasized the disparity in treatment between ordinary prisoners and those convicted of severe crimes. He underscored the SGPC’s commitment to advocating for the release of individuals like Balwant Singh Rajoana and other Bandi Singhs. Sialka disclosed that discussions on this matter had taken place with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, awaiting a definitive resolution.
