The Shabdotsav 2026 event in Delhi recently brought together film and literature. Bollywood actor Tej Sapru shared insights on the evolving landscape of the film industry and his personal journey. Sapru emphasized the importance of open discussions like Shabdotsav, stating that such platforms play a crucial role in the industry’s growth.

Tej Sapru delved into his extensive experience in films, tracing back to his beginnings in 1979. Reflecting on the past, he highlighted the shift in emotions and distribution methods in the film industry. Sapru recalled a time when films were distributed differently across cities like Mumbai and Delhi, with a more sentimental approach to storytelling.

Discussing the changes in cinema exhibition, Sapru noted the transition from single theaters with long film runs to today’s scenario of shorter screening durations. He expressed concern over the impact of these changes on small producers, who now face challenges in securing theaters for their releases. Sapru also reminisced about the charm of classic films and music, noting the shift in audience engagement with contemporary cinema.

Tej Sapru drew a comparison between the bygone era of filmmaking and the present, lamenting the loss of personal connections and artistic freedom in today’s centralized industry model. He highlighted the diminishing significance of music in modern films and the struggles faced by emerging artists and filmmakers. Despite acknowledging the inevitability of change in the film industry, Sapru expressed a nostalgic longing for the depth and emotion characteristic of earlier times.
