The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has called for an independent investigation into Inspector Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, accused by US authorities of connections with gangsters, alleging collusion with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). SAD’s chief spokesperson, Arshdeep Singh Kler, highlighted Nagra’s controversial history, including filing a case against an AAP rival for desecrating the party’s symbol. Kler claimed that Nagra engaged in extortion under political patronage, raising questions about who shielded him and if illicit gains were shared with political figures.
Terming the FBI indictment as indicative of AAP’s influence in Punjab, Kler pointed to Nagra’s association with notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, suggesting deeper implications. He accused the AAP government of aiding Bhagwanpuria’s relocation to Punjab from Assam and leveraging him to intimidate opponents during a by-election in Tarn Taran. Kler further alleged that the AAP administration obstructed Bhagwanpuria’s prosecution in a UAPA case, insinuating a potential nexus between law enforcement, criminals, and AAP leaders that warrants thorough scrutiny.
Emphasizing the need for transparency, Kler underscored the role of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who oversees the Home portfolio, in addressing misconduct within the police force. He urged Mann to resign in the public’s interest, citing a failure to curb malpractices within law enforcement. The SAD’s demand for a comprehensive investigation aims to uncover the alleged connections between Nagra, gangsters, and political entities, shedding light on potential systemic issues that require immediate attention.
