The Shiv Sena (UBT) criticized the Congress, labeling it as the “B-team” of the BJP ahead of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on January 15. Anand Dubey, the Shiv Sena (UBT) national spokesperson, expressed disappointment over the Congress’s decision to contest independently, alleging betrayal of the Opposition alliance. Dubey claimed that the Congress, lacking organizational strength in Mumbai, had previously benefited from the Shiv Sena’s support but now stands isolated.
Dubey further emphasized that the Congress is unlikely to secure significant wins in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections, likening the party’s presence in Mumbai to that of a transient entity. He criticized AIMIM leader Waris Pathan, accusing him of aligning with the BJP’s interests. Dubey reiterated the Shiv Sena’s commitment to ensuring a Marathi Hindu mayor for the BMC, responding to Pathan’s suggestion of a hijab-wearing woman as a potential mayor.
Elections for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the BMC, are scheduled for January 15, 2026, with results to be declared on January 16.
