Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut criticized the Centre for abruptly ending activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hunger strike without addressing the main demand for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Raut expressed disappointment that the fast was terminated at midnight in the presence of government officials instead of publicly at Jantar Mantar. He questioned the absence of opposition leaders and key protest organizers during this event.
Raut emphasized the need for clarity on which conditions were accepted by the government following the 26-day hunger strike. He highlighted that the primary demand was Pradhan’s resignation, and urged the government to explain why this demand was not met. Raut warned that the movement initiated by Wangchuk would persist, announcing upcoming joint political and public actions led by various leaders.
The Shiv Sena leader criticized the ruling leadership for allegedly acting out of fear by ending the fast in the absence of movement representatives and opposition consent. Raut accused the government of maligning Wangchuk and making decisions without consulting the protesters. He refuted government claims of opposition reluctance to engage in debates, citing past instances where discussions were avoided by the government.
