Amid the escalating Gulf war fuel crisis, Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray criticized the BJP-led government’s “gutter gas” research. The party highlighted a disconnect between the government’s positive claims and the harsh economic reality. As tensions rise between Iran and Israel, India faces economic strain with the rupee hitting a record low and fuel shortages emerging.
In a scathing editorial in the party’s mouthpiece ‘Saamana,’ the Thackeray camp took a dig at the Centre for downplaying the impact of the Gulf war on India. The editorial pointed out the failure of the government’s assurances as global crude oil prices surge. Attacks on oil refineries in Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait, along with disruptions in oil tanker movements by Iran, have exacerbated India’s economic crisis.
The editorial criticized the Modi-led government for apparent inaction amid the crisis, accusing the Prime Minister of focusing on election campaigning in southern and eastern states. It referenced a controversial statement from the White House alleging that India was allowed to purchase Russian oil due to Modi’s compliance with American directives.
Shiv Sena mocked the government’s solution to the energy crisis, highlighting a proposed method of producing gas from gutters. The editorial sarcastically suggested that India would lead in “gutter gas” production, utilizing drains and rivers for fuel extraction. The government’s reliance on such unconventional methods to address the energy crisis was emphasized in the editorial.
