In a recent development within the Shiv Sena, MP Sanjay Raut has urged the Mumbai Police Commissioner to promptly arrest rebel MP Sanjay Dina Patil under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Raut’s letter to the Commissioner highlighted Patil’s alleged inflammatory remarks following his defection to the Eknath Shinde-led faction.
Raut expressed concerns over public outrage in Maharashtra post the defection of six Lok Sabha MPs, emphasizing the need for peaceful protests. He specifically pointed out Patil’s reported threats of violence against protesters and political opponents, including a statement claiming to have killed five people in the past.
The letter from Raut also called for an investigation into Patil’s statements, urging authorities to treat them as serious admissions of guilt. Raut emphasized the gravity of the situation, especially regarding Patil’s alleged bomb threat and its implications on national security, demanding immediate action from law enforcement.
Expressing his intent to seek legal recourse if the police do not act swiftly, Raut warned of potential consequences in the current tense atmosphere. The ongoing feud between the factions escalated further with allegations of monetary inducements and physical violence, leading to a standoff that now involves law enforcement. The Mumbai Police’s response to Raut’s letter is awaited.
