Suspension of goods transport in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has led to shortages of essential items and fuel, as reported by local media. The Oil Tanker Contractors’ Association highlighted the impact on petroleum product supply due to the ban on oil tanker movement. This disruption has affected the supply chain for the past few days, causing concerns for fuel availability in airports and markets.
Traders and transporters are urging authorities to reopen roads to alleviate the ongoing supply issues. The Rawalpindi Goods Transport Association President emphasized the adverse effects on the transport system, with no goods reaching markets since April 19. The closure of roads has not only disrupted businesses but also affected daily wage workers who rely on these operations for livelihood.
The association proposed using the motorway for transporting goods from other regions to mitigate the shortages in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. While public transport has been allowed on certain routes, the transport of goods via the motorway could help prevent further scarcity of essential items. Authorities had previously announced the suspension of public and goods transport in the twin cities without specifying the reasons, urging citizens to cooperate with security measures.
