Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill made history as the youngest player to surpass 4,000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during a match against Lucknow Super Giants. Achieving this milestone in 118 innings, Gill is the second-fastest Indian to reach this mark, following KL Rahul who did it in 105 innings. Notably, only Chris Gayle, David Warner, Jos Buttler, and Rahul have reached 4,000 runs quicker than Gill.
Known for his consistency, Gill has maintained an impressive IPL career average of nearly 40 and a strike rate of around 140. Starting with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018, he scored 1,417 runs in 58 matches before moving to Gujarat Titans in 2022. Since joining the Titans, Gill has excelled, accumulating over 2,580 runs in 63 games at an average exceeding 46 and a strike rate close to 150, making him the highest run-scorer in the IPL since the 2022 edition began.
Leading the Titans now, Gill has recorded 27 half-centuries and four centuries in the IPL, with a majority of his fifties (17) and all his hundreds coming in the victorious 2022 season. Earlier in the current season, Gill also became the first player to score 2,500 IPL runs for Gujarat Titans during a match against Delhi Capitals, reaching the milestone with a boundary off Axar Patel in the seventh over.
