Shailesh Chandra, President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), highlighted the importance of maintaining privacy and security for customer data in automotive innovation. He stressed the need for transparency and consent from customers regarding the usage of their data, whether in electric vehicles or traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles. Chandra, who also serves as the CEO of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd, underscored the significance of classifying and securely managing data at the OEM level to protect customer privacy.
In a recent event, Chandra emphasized the necessity of designing systems that prioritize privacy and security. He outlined key principles, including customer awareness and consent for data usage, data classification, and secure data handling practices. Chandra emphasized the need for a systematic approach to data management, ensuring that information is retained appropriately and safeguarded against potential risks.
The Indian automobile industry witnessed a significant boost in sales in November last year, with passenger vehicle sales rising by nearly 19% to 4,12,405 units compared to the same period the previous year. Additionally, three-wheeler sales increased by 21.3% to 71,999 units, while two-wheeler sales saw a growth of 21.2% to 19,44,475 units. Industry experts are optimistic about sustained growth in the sector, attributing it to favorable policy reforms and positive market sentiments expected to extend well into 2026.
