Sikhs of America celebrated their annual Vaisakhi Gala Dinner in Washington, honoring Sikh community leaders, lawmakers, philanthropists, entrepreneurs, and business figures from the US and Britain for their contributions to public service, humanitarian work, and Sikh representation.
Among the awardees were Virginia Delegate JJ Singh, industrialist Baldev Singh Kang, philanthropist Sardar Bahadur Singh, Minister of Human Rights and Minorities in Punjab province of Pakistan Ramesh Singh Arora, and British Sikh MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi.
JJ Singh, the first turbaned Sikh to serve in a US state legislature, emphasized the importance of Sikh principles in his political endeavors, advocating for hard work, service to others, and belief in a greater cause.
Ramesh Singh Arora was recognized for his efforts in preserving Sikh heritage and facilitating access for Sikh pilgrims visiting Pakistan, particularly through initiatives like the Kartarpur Corridor.
Baldev Singh Kang’s contributions to the business and industry sectors, notably in trucking and steel, were acknowledged, along with his expanding business ventures across India, Armenia, Dubai, and the US.
Sardar Bahadur Singh was honored for his humanitarian and educational endeavors, including support for free medical treatment and educational programs benefiting underprivileged families.
Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi was commended for his representation of minority communities in the UK Parliament and his advocacy for diversity and democratic values.
Jasdip Singh Jassi, head of Sikhs of America, emphasized the importance of showcasing Sikh contributions in mainstream American society, urging the continuation of promoting Sikh values to future generations.
