Sikkim commemorated its 77th Republic Day with a grand celebration at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. Governor Om Prakash Mathur hoisted the National Flag and presided over a ceremonial parade, emphasizing the state’s dedication to constitutional principles and public service. Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay, accompanied by senior officials and a large crowd, participated in the state-level event, highlighting Sikkim’s commitment to democratic values and the efforts of government personnel.
A vibrant and well-coordinated parade was a key feature of the occasion, showcasing contingents from various forces including the Sikkim Police, Sikkim Armed Police, Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), Forest Guards, and a special unit from the 4th Indian Reserve Battalion in Arunachal Pradesh. The presence of the Arunachal Pradesh IRB unit at the celebration promoted unity and collaboration among the northeastern states.
Led by Commandant Michael Sambyo, the Arunachal Pradesh IRB contingent, comprising 31 jawans under Sub-Inspector Karmar Kamki’s command, displayed impressive drill and synchronized movements that garnered praise from onlookers and dignitaries. The event also saw the recognition of government officials and personnel with Meritorious Service Awards for their outstanding contributions in various domains.
Honorees included individuals like Rinzing Paljor Bhutia, Superintendent of Police (Vigilance); Rajiv Philip, Deputy Director at the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT); Anil Kumar Bagdas, Additional Secretary in the Department of Personnel; and Pravin Lamichaney, Assistant Superintendent of Police in Gangtok. The Republic Day festivities concluded with a collective commitment from officials and citizens to uphold the Constitution, enhance governance, and collaborate for the ongoing progress and welfare of Sikkim.
