The Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) refuted claims of coal theft or disappearance following accusations of a Rs 1,600 crore coal scam. The public sector firm clarified that recent media reports alleging missing coal worth around Rs 1,600 crore are unfounded. This response comes after Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to investigate the reported disappearance of nearly 40 lakh tonnes of coal from SCCL.

The SCCL emphasized that all coal-related processes, including production, stockpiling, transportation, and sales, are transparent and monitored by modern technological systems. The company detailed its coal transportation, security measures, and technical monitoring systems currently in place at Singareni. Officials highlighted that every stage of coal movement, from production to consumer delivery, is digitally recorded for transparency and accountability.

Senior officials from different departments at Singareni assured continuous monitoring of coal transportation processes. They mentioned the use of advanced systems like RFID, GPS, CCTV cameras, and electronic weighbridges to ensure the security and integrity of coal transportation. The Singareni management reiterated the robust security framework in place, incorporating various technologies and monitoring mechanisms to prevent any coal theft or disappearance.

Union Minister Kishan Reddy’s letter to the Telangana Chief Minister expressed concerns over the alleged missing coal and its potential impact on SCCL’s financial health. He highlighted the importance of investigating the reported irregularities to safeguard the company’s future growth. The letter also pointed out the financial challenges faced by SCCL, including significant unpaid dues from the Telangana government, which could further strain the company’s financial stability.
