Six individuals have lost their lives, and 11 are currently unaccounted for following heavy rains that led to flooding in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. The downpour, a result of Typhoon Maysak, has impacted 375,000 residents in the region, prompting the evacuation of 130,000 individuals from affected areas.
Rescue efforts are actively ongoing in Guangxi, with a deployment of more than 8,000 personnel, over 1,700 vehicles, and 5,700 boats engaged in search and rescue operations and clearing hazards. The forecast predicts continued heavy rainfall in parts of the region for the next three days.
Authorities have raised the flood alert in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to the highest-level red warning, with 341 reservoirs exceeding their flood-limit water levels and 56 monitoring stations reporting water levels above warning thresholds on 41 rivers in Guangxi. The region is bracing for persistent elevated water levels in various river sections over the next 24 hours.
Efforts to enhance early warnings, relocate residents, and facilitate post-disaster recovery are being reinforced by local authorities. Additionally, China has dispatched more than 36,000 additional disaster relief supplies to Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, including woven bags and rubber boats, in response to the crisis.
