A total of six FIRs have been lodged by the Kolkata Police following disturbances at a joint rally involving the youth and students’ wings of various Left parties protesting the NEET exam paper leak. The police stated that the chaos was instigated by criminals who infiltrated the student protest.
One FIR was filed suo motu by the city police at Hare Street Police Station, with the remaining five based on complaints of alleged assaults on media personnel during the protest. West Bengal Chief Minister, Suvendu Adhikari, condemned the incident and promised strict action against the offenders.
The police are vigilant post-incident, having reviewed numerous videos and identified criminals among the student protesters responsible for the disorder. The protest, initially organized by Left Party student wings, escalated into violence when the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) joined after their separate rally request was denied by the police.
During the protest, the Esplanade area witnessed clashes as protesters threw objects at police and media personnel, leading to baton charges and teargas deployment by the authorities. Several journalists sustained injuries, with the Chief Minister visiting them in the hospital and assuring stringent measures against the troublemakers.
